Whole Human Project is looking for world changing educators to teach our gender, sexuality, and race identities course to middle and high school students across the Bay Area.

 

WHO WE ARE:

 

Whole Human Project is an in-school, year-long, program for teenagers focused on social, emotional, and sex education. We are dedicated to educating the whole human - the heart, the mind, the social and the emotional.

 

Whole Human exists to provide youth the vital life skills needed to both survive and thrive during formative, adolescent years.

 

Young people crave authentic conversations about identity, sexuality, and boundaries. They want to learn how to communicate--how to listen and how to be heard. Most importantly, youth want to know that what they are feeling and thinking is normal. They want to be accepted. They want community.

 

Youth who feel marginalized or lack the language to describe their feelings and experiences are all too often left without the resources needed to thrive.  As such, we see disproportionately large numbers of homeless LGBT youth as well as an increase in self-injurious behavior among the same population. Male identified youth are positioned to repeat dangerous patterns of misogyny, sexual objectification, and sexual violence unless programs like Whole Human intervene and promote positive definitions of masculinity. Each social and emotional issue explored as part of The Whole Human Project can be a significant hurdle in the way of a person’s academic and social success and the organization exists to change that.

 

Founded in 2015, Whole Human Project is already a game changer. In 2015-2016 our program served 150 students in 3 East Bay Schools. In 2016-2017, Whole Human Project is projected to serve upwards of 2,000 students at 9 schools across the entire San Francisco Bay Area.

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

 

Whole Human Educators are responsible for delivering Whole Human curriculum to middle and high cohorts at their respective schools. In addition to spending our days in the classroom, Whole Human Educators have the opportunity to work collaboratively with peers in their region, to update curriculum annually, engage in professional development opportunities, and author and implement training programs for school staff. Details are as follows:

 

  • This is a .50- .7o FTE job (basically two weeks per month)

  • Teach 2.5 hour intensive Whole Human Project identities courses at 2 (maybe 3) different schools 

  • Teach 2 middle or high school cohorts per day 

  • Are responsible for providing students with outstanding curriculum and program delivery and

  • Conduct assessments to measure program impact and success

  • Participate in assigned meetings and regular communication with host schools as well as reporting to Whole Human Executive Director

 

ELIGIBILITY:

 

● Commitment to uphold Whole Human Project’s values and belief that all youth should feel empowered in their identities and that school is the ideal place to strengthen character and engage in social, emotional, and sex education

● A California Teaching Credential is preferred but not required

● A Bachelor’s Degree is preferred, but not required.

● Strong candidates will have 3+ years of traditional or nontraditional teaching experience in urban schools

● All Educators must undergo fingerprinting and a TB test to work with children

● Candidates must have access to reliable transportation


KEY QUALITIES AND CHARACTERISTICS OF A WHOLE HUMAN EDUCATOR:

 

  • Maintains high expectations for all students and believes all students can be successful in school

  • Is actively anti-racist, anti-oppressive, and works diligently to serve as an “out-loud” ally to all communities, but especially communities of color and trans* and gender expansive people/humans

  • Able to expertly facilitate learning experiences, using a variety of methods including: direct instruction, project­ based learning, small group tasks, individual student projects, individual and group writing tasks, formative and summative assessment, direct teacher feedback, extended individual students tasks and public performance/presentation

  • Collaborates with colleagues to maintain integrity of Whole Human Project curriculum and program and it’s students

  • Engages with students in age appropriate and relevant manner, is often considered student's’ “favorite teacher”

  • Has extensive knowledge and able to clearly articulate issues around gender, race, and sexual identities as it relates to lived experience, social construction, popular culture, and systems of oppression

  • Candidates of color, who were born and raised in the Bay Area, and who are bilingual are especially encouraged to apply

COMPENSATION:

● This is a .50 - .70 FTE job. Salary is $260 per day.  

● Option for health insurance or Health Savings Account 

● Small Budget for school materials
